SALTIGA 20 SPIN REELS

The demand for heavy-duty saltwater spinning reels has steadily increased since the first Saltiga was produced in 2002. The original Saltiga established a new standard in this area, and it has evolved over the course of its eighteen-year existence.

The 20 Saltiga has been completely overhauled and engineered, from the drag knob to the handle, to once again establish itself as the top saltwater spinning reel. 

The new Monocoque body is at the heart of the re-design. Machined from high-strength aluminium, a single-piece body capable of carrying substantially bigger internal gears components provides unexpected strength and better sealing. A brand-new drive gear is housed within the MQ body, offering gear strength that is more than double that of its predecessor. The new G1 Drive Gear is likewise thicker, with a newly developed Tough Digigear idea with wider and deeper cut teeth, compared to 15 Saltiga's diameter. 

In and of itself, the new MQ body improves upon 15 Saltiga. The body assembly's stiffness is improved by the single-piece construction. Which means 20 Saltiga gives ultimate strength when utilised under big weights against the ocean's fiercest predators. The redesigned MQ body also features a new rear cover design that eliminates screws from the underside of the reel to improve incursion resistance. The cover is made of reinforced ABS to prevent electrolysis with the aluminium body. Improved paint and finishing procedures further improve the cosmetic endurance of the product, as well as the corrosion resistance. 

The advancements keep coming, with a brand-new aluminium Air Rotor providing more than double the rigidity compared to 15 Saltiga. The switch to an aluminium rotor, which adds weight, was made possible by creative engineering of the newly designed shape, which kept the weight gain to a minimum. 

Spool and drag assembly improvements have also been made, with drag pressures increasing to an incredible 25/30kg. Because the spool capacity was limited, Daiwa engineers devised a new drag stack with ten times the amount of washers compared to the 15 Saltiga. Because of its aluminium construction and larger size than the 14 Expedition, a newly developed aluminium Radiation Drag Knob provides better cooling and heat dissipation than the 15 Saltiga. The ABS Longcast lip has been redesigned to increase casting performance and line management. Another deliberate approach to minimise water infiltration under the spool is a visible lack of porting and a unique under-side lip in the spool design.
